Fuel price hike: ASUU begins indefinite strike

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been directed to join the NLC in the strike action over the increased pump price of petrol, Thisday reports.

This was contained in a letter dispatched to the members of the ASUU congress nationwide. The letter was read at the University of Ibadan Chapter yesterday, May 17.

Ogunyemi, explaining the reason for this action, said, “ASUU members are called upon to according to our Union’s principles, fully respect Article 2 of the Constitution of ASUU; that our Union and members shall work for the protection and advancement of the socio-economic interests of the nation. Branch Chairpersons are to conduct emergency congress meetings on Tuesday 17 May 2016 to mobilize our members for the action commencing on Wednesday. All branches of ASUU nationwide are to comply.”

The ASUU boss who said according to Pulse that the common denominator to all Nigerians is poverty added that the same APC government that failed to pay civil servants for months is now celebrating budget signing with the legalization of black market.

Omole who noted that many state governors who now align with the removal of subsidy ran their states aground through wasteful spending‎ added that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should beam search lights on state governors.

Divided NLC defies court, embarks on strike

According to the government, a benchmark of N145 per litre, has been recommended as pump price. The announcement was made by Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum, who however promised the price will not stay for so long. This however didn’t go down well with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who vowed to go on strike to force the federal government to revert to the former pump price of petrol (now pegged at N145). But just as both labour unions planned an industrial action to force the federal government to revert to the former pump price of petrol, the government filed a suit at the Industrial court to restrain the NLC and TUC from embarking on strike. And in the early hours of Wednesday, May 18, the court read an injunction against NLC and TUC not to go on strike.

The court order shows that should the NLC and TUC go ahead with the industrial action, then they are going against the law. Just before the court order, a meeting into the night of Tuesday, May 17, between the federal government and the labour workers to reach a compromise over the proposed action, ended in a deadlock. Although it was gathered that the federal government has agreed to set up a committee that will review the new fuel pump price as well as the minimum wage issue which the workers have been agitating over.

2 Fulani Herdsmen jailed for 20 years over illegal possession of firearms

A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba on Monday sentenced two Fulani herdsmen, Hassan Abidu and Yakubu Salem, suspected to be members of a group of armed nomads terrorizing indigenes of the state  especially farmers, to 20 years in jail with hard labour.

The court pronounced the verdict on the two Fulani nomads on a two count charge of unlawful possession of firearms preferred against them by the Attorney-General of Delta State, Peter Mrakpor and punishable under section 3(1) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act Laws of the Federation Republic of Nigeria 2010.

Two convicts were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each with hard labour and without an option of fine.

According to the prosecution, on or about the 23rd day of February, 2015 at about 0600 hours, the Ibusa Police Division, in Oshimili North council area of the state, received a distress call that a group of suspected Fulani boys numbering about six were sighted around Power Line, in the community armed with dangerous weapons including firearms.

A team of Anti-Robbery Squad which responded to the distress call later arrested Hassan Abidu and Yakubu Salem in possession of two single barrel guns without license which they claimed they used for hunting. They also claimed that they did not know that it was an offense to carry arms without license.

Happy 50th Birthday, Janet Jackson! Here's why this year will be the best for her

Janet Jackson has spent over 30 years giving us the gift of music, but this year is all about giving her the best gift of her life.

Today marks the pop icon's 50th birthday, and something tells us that this is the mark to her best year yet. Along with continuing to deliver music that gets fans excited and singing into their hair brush, and putting together a world tour, Jackson is about to embark on the greatest journey she's ever been on—motherhood.

Earlier this month, E! News confirmed that the singer is pregnant and expecting her first child with hubby Wissam Al Mana. A source told E! News at the time that Janet is in her second trimester of pregnancy and that she and Al Mana have been working with a fertility specialist.

Jackson's made it no secret over the years that this is something she's wanted for quite some time.
And I think that if I'm really supposed to have kids, it will happen, if that's God's plan for me," she told Harpers Bazaar in 2009.

Jackson told Access Hollywood in 2010 at the For Colored Girls junket that people had been asking her whether the Rhythm Nation would be hearing the pitter-patter of little feet anytime soon "for a long time, for years," and once again, she directed the question to a higher power.

"You have to ask God," she smiled, somewhat coyly. "And once you ask Him, will you let me know what he says?

"I would love to, I would love to have a family," she continued, "but it's in God's hands. So if it's meant to be, it'll happen. I hope it does."

Happy birthday Janet, i pray you enjoy this new chapter of your life.......

DAVID’S VIEW POINT ON THE PITFALLS OF INTENDING ENTREPRENEURS

On our second outing we stumbled into this…

INTRODUCTION

As servants of God money should serve you. People who don’t know God and the way He works fuss over these things, but you know both God and the way He works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out [1], because I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good health even as thy soul prospereth [2]. Brothers this is Gods agenda for us but many are still failing and inconsistent in life. The reason for this is the choices we’ve made over time. God cannot be held responsible for any pitfall. I just think we’ve not gotten the revelation. As you read over what I have written to you, you’ll be able to see for yourselves into the mystery of Christ provision (my emphasis). The mystery is that people who have never heard of God and those who have heard of Him all their lives, stand on the same ground before of God [3]; Thus, making them eligible to the blessings of Abraham. God has made these principles universal, whosoever applies them will get the result thereof. Thank God for Christ. Christ tore the veil of failure for us to operate in all round victory. We have no excuse to disappoint the kingdom in where God has planted you. As we review this two pitfalls as addressed by our own brother, my prayer for you is that The God of our lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation of insight into deep and intimate knowledge of Him and His expectation to see you succeed (emphasis by me) by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light…[4]. I must say that this is a light for anyone who is thinking business. Every transaction we do in life is business. It is legal practice in the kingdom.

THE TWO PITFALLS OF INTENDING ENTERPRENEURS

1. THEY DO NOTHING

One day I walked by the field of
An old lazybones, and then passed
The vineyard of a lout; they were overgrown
With weeds, thick with thistles
All the fences broken down. I took a long
Look and pondered what I saw; the fields preached
me a sermon and I listened:
A nap here, a nap there, a day off here,
a day off there, sit back, take it easy. Do you know
What comes next, just this:
You can look forward to a dirt-poor life,
Poverty your permanent house guest! [5].

This people that do nothing are not zero on ideas or things to do, they do what is called ANALYSIS PARALYSIS. Analysis paralysis is having an idea, analyzing and over analyzing that idea with all kinds of information until you get confused and drop the idea gotten. That is paralysis. This is what the bible says concerning this matter: Loafers say it’s dangerous out there! Tigers are prowling the streets! And then pull the covers back over their head [6]. He who observes the wind will not sow. Don’t sit down watching the wind, do your own work, don’t stare at the clouds, get on with life [7]. Now consider, how many ideas has the Lord given you? but along the line you started analyzing until you started paralyzing those ideas. The rain will fall when the cloud gets heavy. Don’t look at it and say I will not do this because of this. The rain is doing its work are you doing yours?  So many are too fear-gripped for God’s liking. We are not saying don’t think and map out plans once the idea comes.  We are saying; don’t analyse and pack all the WON’Ts in the world. Do not despise the years of small beginnings, God is delighted in seeing you succeed [8]. One day David accosted a very successful business man and asked him how he was able to make it this far considering the fact that he did not pass through the four walls of university. This was his response; learn to decide quickly and act quickly.
Only lazy and fearful people console themselves by saying ‘’be wise as serpent and be patient.’’ patience is not procrastination. Wisdom is not backing off everything for fear of temporal instability – Onyi. Many people are waiting for the perfect time. When is the perfect time? Procrastination is the thief of time.

2. THEY DO ANYTHING
Doing anything is doing nothing. Yes act quickly, but don’t act on anything. Any man that does anything is only in a circle. He has gone nowhere. When you walk in the direction of your dream, life tends to favor you – (Amobi David). Don’t do anything but those things that your heart beat for because in times of challenges only passion can sustain it. Do things in the line of your passion. You can never gain respect as a liability. You must do something in the line of your dreams. Understand the power of focus. If the eye be single and focused, your whole body will be full of light and thus, you cannot stumble. You are never a focus until you have focus – (David Oyedepo). The problem you identify is a pointer to where God is taking you to – (Matthew Obaka).

EXERCISE

To help you walk in the direction of your dream do this exercises as structured by Amobi David. Put your answers on the spaces provided.

1. If you have all the money and all conditions are kept. What is that one thing you will do?
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

Look at what you wrote. Imagine the possibilities.

2. Write down three things that you will do to make what you’ve written happen. (tip: your first should be inquiries).
1. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.
2. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.
3. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

Nigerian army arrests 'Avengers' oil militants

The Nigerian army has arrested several suspected members of a militant group called the "Niger Delta Avengers", thought to be behind recent attacks on oil pipelines in the south.

The country's oil production has been severely disrupted by the attacks.
US oil giant Chevron shut down an offshore platform this month after an attack claimed by the Avengers group.

Many militants joined an amnesty programme in 2009 after an insurgency in the oil-rich delta region.
Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer, but its economy is currently facing difficulties due to the recent drop in global oil prices.

TAKE THE ‘MIC’

Can I chip in something to sleeping Christians who spend all day in church, praying and fasting expecting God to send ravens? Even if He does, you will have to go to the brook - Do something!. According to Andrew Wommack; 100 x 0 = 0. 100% spirituality without a proper application of the principles for success is equal to zero. The church is a place of refilling, reequipping and getting all you need to conquer the world for Christ. The problem is that Christians have been so confined to the four walls of the building for so long that we ignore that we are to go ye into the world for Christ.

Jesus undeterred, went right ahead and gave His charge:
God authorized and commanded me to commission you:
Go and train every one (in your field), far and near, in this
(Kingdom) way of life, marking them by baptism… then
instruct them (as leaders) in the practice of all I have commanded
YOU.  (Emphasis is mine)  Matt 28:18-20(MSG)

So tell me, who are those in the business world which fuels and funds the other mountains, training people in the kingdom way of doing business. Who are those in the mountain of art and entertainment were values and virtues are celebrated or distorted, who are those in government where evil is either restrained or indorsed, who are those in families where either godly or ungodly offsprings are raised, who are those in Education where truths or lies about God and His creation are told, who are those in Media where information is released through the lens of good or evil, who are those in Religion revealing the love of the Father. We are only focused on religion and thus, we’ve lost the other six mountains! Where is the intensity of light tested? In the Dark! Where are the lights on these seven mountains of influence? Are we covering this light under the bushel of ‘’me and my family’’? Do you know the kingdom is not ready to lose one mountain? Jesus teaching; the shepherd after securing the 99 will go searching for the 1 and will not stop until he comes back with the 1. God is expecting a 100% profit of everything He has deposited inside of you.

Do businesses till I come - Luke 19:13.

Can you sing, are you good in writing, administration, counseling, organizing, public speaking, fashion, sports, presenting, cooking, hair styling, IT, construction, artifacts, teaching, modeling (do you take selfies a lot? )… etc.
I can prove to you that you are like that servant with one talent. How? You are not setting the pace in your field and mountain and as such not meeting up to the expectation of our Father!

For over 30 years God gave three men a vision; Loren Canningham founder of YWAM, Bill Bright founder of Campus Crusade, and  Francis Schaeffer theologian and founder of L’Abri. The vision was a description on how to advance the kingdom of God in this generation.
There is an unseen battle rage for dominion over Gods creation and souls of the people. This battle is fought on these seven fronts known as mountains over the culture to shake and influence its destiny. The church has retrieved its place of influence over these mountains. When we lose our influence, we lose the culture and when we lose the culture we fail to advance the kingdom of God.

Lets join in this fight and conquer this seven mountains for the Kingdom!
Take the ‘MIC’!!!

President Buhari signs 2016 budget into law

President Mohammadu Buhari has assented to the 2016 Appropriation Bill, giving way for full implementation of the budget. The signing took place just a moment ago at the presidential Villa, Abuja.

The record 6.06 trillion naira ($30.6 billion) budget triples capital expenditure in Africa's top oil exporter from 2015 and aims to stimulate an economy hit hard by the fall in global crude prices.

Nigeria is facing its biggest economic crisis for years after oil revenues, which make up about 70 percent of national income, slumped along with global crude prices.
