New Willy Wonka Movie in Progress After Gene Wilder's Death

E! News can confirm Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the Willy Wonka IP from the Roald Dahl Estate and is beginning to plan a new movie centered around the unforgettable character..
According to Variety, who first reported the news, the studio has been trying to lock down rights since the beginning of the year. Ultimately, they were able to close a deal this fall.
Roald penned two books in which Willy Wonka appeared including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. He ultimately never wrote anything specifically on the Willy Wonka character.
Movie fans know, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has already been adapted into two feature films including a 2005 version that was directed by Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp. The original, however, starred Gene Wilder who passed away on August 28.
"He had been in The Producers, but he wasn't a superstar. I looked at him and I knew in my heart there could only be one person who could play Willy Wonka," director Mel Stuart shared with The Washington Post in 2005. "He walked to the elevator after he read and I ran after him and I said, ‘As far as I'm concerned, you've got it.'"
Sources tell Variety that the upcoming film will not be an origin tale, but a standalone movie focused on Willy Wonka and his early adventures.
Harry Potter producer David Heyman will help produce the film while The Secret Life of Pets writer Simon Rich will work on the script.
A release date and any cast members have yet to be announced.

Selma Blair Opens Up About Her "Terrifying" Plane Outburst: "I Had a Total Psychotic Blackout

Selma Blair is opening up about her plane incident that made front-page headlines earlier this summer.

During an appearance on The Talk Wednesday afternoon, the actress shed some light on what really happened as she flew from Mexico to Los Angeles.

"I am someone who should never drink and I rarely do and I don't drink anymore, but I did. I was going through something. I had a glass of wine, someone gave me a pill that I thought was something that I had taken before, which I don't take on a regular basis. It was something completely different," she explained to the co-hosts. "A very bad choice and I had a total psychotic blackout."

She continued, "It was horrible and frightening and I had empathy for myself actually afterwards because actually it was so out of character for me, especially now that I am a mother."

Back in June, Selma was removed from a Delta flight after having an outburst mid-fight. The actress, who was on a getaway with her four-year-old son and ex for Father's Day, asked for forgiveness one day after the incident.

"I made a big mistake yesterday," she told Vanity Fair. "I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry."

Contrary to reports, Selma told viewers Wednesday afternoon that she was taken to a clinic instead of the hospital where she was given an IV and an assessment. She was able to go home two hours later.
"My son was with his father and he had slept through it. I knew he was going to sleep. He had headphones on and that's why I took this pill...bad choice all around," Selma admitted. "Totally own it, it will not happen again."

If the actress is offered a glass of alcohol today, she will politely decline. And if you keep asking, she has one joke ready to go: "Google me."

"I keep it alive in me with me every day," she shared with Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and the rest of the co-hosts. "I forgive myself, but I keep it alive like things can go really wrong and humiliating."

Gabrielle Union sues BET

Actress Gabrielle Union is suing the BET network, claiming they are unfairly trying to extend her contract on the series "Being Mary Jane."

Union filed suit against BET and Breakdown Productions Inc. on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. She is alleging breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation.

According to court documents, the actress maintains that she agreed to sign on for the BET drama with the understanding that the series would shoot not more than 13 episodes per season. Union did not want to commit to more episodes to allow for her other work in film.

The complaint states that Union was assured during a meeting in 2012 with series creators Mara Bock Akil and Salim Akil that they "would never be able to produce more than 13 episodes of the series per season." BET later confirmed that the show would film between 10 to 13 episodes per season, Union claims.

Season 1 premiered in 2013 with eight episodes followed by 12 episodes in Season 2. Union's contract was then amended to give her a raise, ensure she would be paid for 13 episodes regardless and she was made an executive producer on the popular series. Season 3 featured 10 episodes.

Union's suit alleges that BET is now attempting to shoot 10 episodes each of Seasons 4 and 5 in succession -- meaning that she would be required to film 20 back-to-back episodes and "fraudulently extend the term of Ms. Union's contract."

BET released a statement about the legal action on Wednesday.

"While we hold Gabrielle Union in the highest esteem, we feel strongly that we are contractually well within our rights and are committed to reaching a swift and positive resolution in this matter," the statement read.

Union -- who is set to be paid $150,000 per episode for Season 4 and $165,000 per episode for Season 5 -- is seeking $1 million in damages and an amendment to her contract stating BET will not shoot more than 13 episodes per season.

Social media has taught Iyanya to keep his relationship private

Sensational music star, Iyanya Mbuk, says he has learnt to keep things away from the social media, especially his relationships.

The Triple MG songster revealed how he feels the media could be of negative effect on one’s relationship.

In a chat with The Punch, the ‘Your Waist’ crooner also said he would not miss being single after he eventually ties the nuptial nuts with his better half.

When asked if he had any plans of getting married this year, he said, “I am making plans to do all that but I don’t think I would want people to know anything about it.

“I will not miss the single life,” he added.

On displaying one’s relationship on the social media, Iyanya said, “The truth is that once it gets to the hands of the media, we both lose it. But it is not your fault because you are just doing your job. But then, it just takes a negative effect on the relationship.

“It puts us on unnecessary pressure. It gives the people who don’t even have the right to talk, an opportunity to interfere even when they don’t know the truth about what is going on.

“So from social media, I’ve learnt to keep my relationship private and to give the people more music. That is what they know me for first of all. I don’t let the other things cloud the music that I’m known for.

“I’m talking from experience,” Iyanya said, adding, “It just doesn’t make any sense. Once you are famous and you put your relationship out there, it is gone.”
