14 dead after overpass collapses in India

An overpass collapsed near the Indian city of Kolkata, killing 14 people and leaving dozens missing, authorities said.

More than 100 people were reported missing after the incident Thursday, which occurred in a busy commercial area north of the city, said Sgt. Saurav Benerjee of Kolkata police.

However, authorities stressed that just because some have been reported missing doesn't mean they're trapped -- it just means they're unaccounted for.

The collapse occurred at around midday, which would have been a busy time in the area.
Since the collapse, 62 people have been pulled out of the rubble, according to Maj. Gen. Anurag Gupta with India's National Disaster Management Authority. It's not clear if those were among the 100-plus people unaccounted for mentioned by Benerjee.

The incident occurred in Girish Park, a crowded neighborhood with many wholesale markets.

Slabs from the flyover, which has been under construction for five years, fell on moving vehicles, Benerjee said.

Some people are feared trapped in their cars while construction workers may be buried under the debris.

Deadly construction accidents are tragically common in India and the rest of South Asia.

A building collapse in Pakistan killed 23 people in November, and nine died when a residential building fell in India in July of last year.

In neighboring Bangladesh, more than 1,000 people were killed when a poorly constructed garment factory caved in almost three years ago.

2 sons of policemen, 6 others killed for robbery, kidnap

Two sons of two police officers and a kidnapper were among eight armed robbery suspects killed during an exchange of fire with the police at Nsukka on Good Friday, when Christians throughout the world were marking death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

One of the armed robbers was the son of a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, while the other was the son of a serving police inspector.

Source told South East Voice that the eight suspects were killed at separate operations in the university town in Enugu State by the Police Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS.

South East Voice gathered that one of the sons of the police officers identified simply as Arinze Ossai hailed from Igboeze North Local Government Area, stationed his robbery gang at a hotel in the area from where the gang terrorised the entire local government area and its environs for several months, robbing and kidnapping people in the area.

It was gathered that following information volunteered to the Police and members of the local vigilante group, the dare devil robbers were confronted in their hideouts, leading to exchange of fire between the Police and the suspects and the death of three of the suspects.

The Igboeze North vigilante group working on a tip off had contacted SARS at the Area command, Nsukka which later accosted the gang which had earlier robbed a Toyota Venza vehicle belonging to a returnee from Malaysia.

Four other suspects, two of whom were identified as Ifeanyi Ogbu and Abuchi Ogbaje from Igboeze South Local Government Area were also reportedly killed while trying to rob their victims on Good Friday.

Batman vs Superman takes $424m at global box office

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice has taken $424m (£300m) at the box office worldwide in its first five days despite poor reviews.

The global total - the fourth-highest ever - included $170.1m in the United States, a record for a March debut and the sixth-highest US opening weekend.

Dawn of Justice took £15.5m in the UK - also a record for March.
The film bringing the two superheroes together for the first time is a welcome success for Warner Bros.

The studio has been hit by a series of expensive failures such as Jupiter Ascending and Pan in recent months.

The DC Comics adaptation, which cost more than $250m to make, was Warner Bros' second-highest international opening after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

The BBC's Mark Kermode described it as a "crushing disappointment", while Kate Muir wrote in The Times: "This superhero-smorgasbord melts into an electric soup of CGI."

Jeff Goldstein, head of distribution for Warner Bros, said: "There was a disconnect there between what critics wrote and the fan interest and the fan response.''

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore, said: "It proves that the concept is bigger than negative reviews. There was no way that if you're a comic book fan or just a movie fan that you're going to miss out on a match-up of such iconic characters. Audiences have to see the movie for themselves.''

Dawn of Justice opened on more than 40,000 screens in 66 markets, including 16,000 in China, 4,242 in the US, 1,701 in the UK and 1,696 in South Korea.

"It's the fans that speak the loudest," said Jeff Bock, a box office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. "It proves how strong these characters are."The Zack Snyder-directed film, starring Ben Affleck and

Henry Cavil, is the first of 10 DC Comics adaptations planned by Warner Bros over the next five years, including Wonder Woman and the Flash.

The first, Suicide Squad, will hit the big screen in August.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens still holds the record for the biggest box office debut weekend globally, with ticket sales of $529m (£355m) in December, including $248m in the US.

‘We Are Not Where We Used to Be’ - Bishop David Oyedepo

Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, says the problems bedeviling Nigeria are systemic rather than solely a function of government.

Speaking on Friday, at the 5th anniversary of Landmark University (LMU), Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oyedepo said: “I don’t see the problems with the government. I see them as systemic. You give a job to a contractor; he won’t do it. He will be looking for whom to give money to so as to cut corners. Then the job is not done and nobody can question him. So we are dealing with a systemic problem; it is not an individual problem and we must look for a solution to it.”

Speaking on the prevalent fuel scarcity in the country, the cleric urged President Muhammadu Buhari to come out with a ‘definite position’ on the situation.

He also urged the government to be willing to carry out an ‘informed review’ when its policies are not working.

“People in government are much in touch with some of the issues. See where we are on the fuel situation. What is the reason? Where are we going? What is the solution they are proffering? If they are increasing the pump prices, let us know. Right now, they sell fuel at various prices everywhere. We used to have black market, but it is ‘black fuel station’ and they have the right to sell at any price because they are private marketers. The government needs to come out with a definite position on the fuel situation.

“Where we are today is not where we used to be. The effect of the foreign exchange has a lot do with the small scale industry. And that is where the bulk of the Nigerian unemployment is. Anybody can make mistake. If the people in authority are not sensitive to the plight of the people, we will keep on making mistakes. My understanding is that it is never late to be right. If a decision is made and you discover the decision is not helping the system, we should do an informed review.”

“What I am saying is that things have not been working, and we are all aware of this. Individuals have a lot of parts to play to recover the dignity of our nation. These problems have been coming over the years. For instance, think of power. Since this democracy started, power has been a major challenge. Why is it not working? What is happening? Why are we still largely a consuming nation? Because the infrastructure required to be a manufacturing nation is not there. And nobody can run anything here with generator. It will be too costly.”

“I think government should have its priorities. What are the fundamentals that can move Nigeria forward? If we have the right platforms for investors to come in, we will solve some of these problems. It is not enough to think of the way out. We should go beyond thinking to reasoning- logical, rational and analytical thinking. These are issues and possible ways out. It is all about cost-effective solutions.”

Missing American siblings confirmed dead in the Brussels terror attack

Missing New York siblings Sascha and Alexander Pinczowski whose cell phone went dead while they were talking to their mom at the airport when that terror bomb blast went off on Tuesday have been confirmed dead on Friday. They were named as part of the 31 killed in the Brussels terror attacks.

The heartbreaking news ended a desperate search that started the moment their cell call from the airport to their mom in Holland sounded like it “went underwater” and then went dead, James Cain, whose daughter Cameron was engaged to Alexander, told the Daily News.

“It’s agonizing beyond any parent’s worst nightmare,” said Cain, a former U.S. ambassador to Denmark.

“They had no other children,” Cain said of parents Edmond and Marjan. “They are strong Dutch fiber, but you can only imagine how devastating this is for them.”

Cain said that the Belgian authorities met with the families of missing people and shared the names of the remaining survivors late Thursday.

How to get her ring size without her knowing

To the guys out there, here are some tips to help you get her ring size without her knowing. You all know that i always got your back, sorry ladies......i couldn't help it...

BE SUBTLE
If you are absolutely set on a surprise proposal but you still want to find out her ring size directly from the source, ask your girlfriend in a very subtle, smooth way. You can pretend, for example, that you are going to buy a ring for your mom/sister/aunt/niece etc. Make sure that this pretend recipient is someone whose hands are similar in size to your girlfriend. Casually ask what her ring size is for reference. If you really want to beef up the ruse, purchase an inexpensive ring and show it to her. Have her try it on and everything! Maybe afterward you can actually give that ring to your mom/sister/aunt/niece to appease your guilty conscience!
ASK HER FRIENDS
A great way to find out her ring size is to ask one of her friends. Friends occasionally have this insight! And, if the friend doesn’t know right away, she can be the one to ask (nonchalantly). Even better, ask the friend to take your girlfriend engagement ring shopping “for fun.” Have her get professionally sized and ask her friend to report back to you. It’s best to choose a friend who might have once had acting aspirations!

BORROW ONE OF HER RINGS
Another method is to snag one of her old rings for a day. You need to be careful with this method because it might backfire on you! Make sure that you grab a ring that she wears on a similarly sized finger, the ring finger of her right hand being the optimal choice (unless, of course, she wears a ring on her left ring finger, which is less likely). Even if you bring in a thumb ring to  where you want to purchase the ring, its usually within a close approximation of what size her ring finger will be. If you choose this option, make sure that you choose a ring that isn’t overly important to her and wouldn’t cause any emotional distress if she notices it missing!

LEAVE A TRACE
If you are terrified of losing one of her rings try this method instead. Take one of her rings and place it on a piece of paper. Draw a circle on the inside and outside of the ring. Do this several times to make sure that your ring traces look consistent. It is easy to figure out the diameter of her ring from your sketch!

ENLIST A FRIEND
If one of your partner’s friends is engaged, ask her friend to let your girlfriend try on the ring. This will put you in a ballpark size range to start out with. You can also use this as an opportunity to ask what she thought of her friend’s ring (in private) and try to do a little finding as to what style of ring she would like for herself.

COMPARE FINGERS
This method is a little more difficult, but if you are desperate, go ahead and try it out! When you are holding her hand, see if one of her fingers is similar in size to a finger of yours. For example, her ring finger might be as big as your pinky. This method isn’t amazingly accurate, but the more information you have on her ring size the closer you can get!

ASK YOUR PARTNER
There are some people in this world who like to do things the hard way, and then there are those who are very straightforward. If you and your partner have been discussing marriage for quite some time, ask her outright what her ring size is! Don’t worry though— you can still have the element of surprise. After all, she doesn’t know when you’re going to ask her, or how! If she doesn’t know her ring size, she can find it using the printable ring sizing guide.
